Enabling New York City's Best Lawyers
to Serve Its Neediest Residents
Volunteers of Legal Service's mission is to leverage the good will, resources, and talents of some of New York City's best law firms to provide pro bono legal services to its neediest residents.
By focusing on recruiting, training, and supporting volunteer lawyers, our small staff is able to have an enormous impact.
Last year, 1,683 lawyers - a group 210 times the size of our staff - volunteered 26,306 hours through our projects, and helped 3,700 people stop evictions, win government benefits, resolve immigration issues, reunite with their families, and even start small businesses. Our Unemployment Insurance Advocacy Project alone won $589,174 in benefits for people wrongly denied.
